Keep Those Comforting Neutral Bedroom Colors—Add a Little Zing

Neutral bedroom colors is really good if you do some energy. Here are several ways.

Make the forecast sunny. Feeling a little gray? Make your own bedroom sunshine. Bring an entry bench to life with a coat of vibrant yellow. Do the same for a rainy-day bedroom color scheme with a burst of yellow for upper and lower parts of your bedroom, and a splash of coral for bedroom walls.

Play with pattern. All it takes is one patterned piece to elevate a bedroom from ho-hum to head-turning. Get instant impact from a bedroom pillow that features a touch of energizing color. Or add a bit of boldness to neutral bedroom flooring with graphic carpet tiles.

Try a furniture “footlift”. Like putting on a great pair of shoes, painting the legs of a neutral bedroom chair is an easy way to refresh a favorite piece, below. Dress up plain wood bedroom chairs in an expected way with a brush of color just on the feet or everywhere but the feet.

Go for a custom shade. Finding that just-right color for a bedroom lampshade? Hard. Transforming a basic bell bedroom lampshade into a custom creation with any shade of fabric dye? Easy! Just follow the manufacturer’s instructions for sink or tub dyeing.

Set your bedroom table with color. Have some fun—play with layers of colorful mix-and-match accents to give your everyday white bedroom table a spring boost.

Mix and match on the bedroom. Matched bedroom is fine, but why not infuse a little more personality into your personal space? Start with two solid sheet sets (try one bright and one neutral shade) so you can mix them up for various looks. Top it off with a solid-color quilt and a pair of bold, patterned shams picked to go with it—the finishing exclamation point.

Add small brushstrokes. Even a single colorful addition—a punchy ceramic lamp, a bright scarf—can wake up your bedroom. Looking for a way to add color without it being in your face? Try a rug. Color seems less scary when it’s below eye level.

Accentuate the positive. Reflect the lively colors of long-blooming orchids (and late-winter light) with a mirror that doubles as bedroom wall art. It only looks like it’s held by a ribbon. The colorful flourish is a quick (and changeable) add-on.
