Bedroom Addition Ideas

You spend a good amount of each day in your bedroom, so when the time comes for a home addition, the bedroom is an obvious contender for the remodel project. Decide what elements of your bedroom are missing from the current design and base the project around adding those elements.

Bathroom

If your current bedroom is lacking a bathroom, consider adding one. A bathroom attached to your bedroom gives you more privacy. It is also makes for more convenient use of the bathroom during the middle of the night or first thing in the morning. If space allows, add a vanity and tub. If your budget allows, consider including luxurious features like a rain-style shower head, a TV, or jetted tub.

Deck

Extend your private living space outdoors with a deck or patio attached to your bedroom. The addition allows you to enjoy quiet outdoor moments. Add a table and chairs, so you can eat breakfast or read a book outside. Spruce the area up with flowers or other plants, and possibly a water fountain for ambiance. If your bedroom permits, build the deck facing west to watch sunsets, or east to watch sunrises, or south for the most natural light. Add a sliding glass door with a screen to let in fresh air without the bugs.

Nursery

If you have small children, a nursery might be the right choice for your bedroom addition. An attached nursery provides convenience for feedings in the middle of the night and peace of mind knowing your baby is nearby. The nursery should be large enough for the essential furniture: a crib, changing table, dresser and rocking chair. It should also be separated at least partially by a wall or door to divide the nursery area from your bedroom area. When your kids grow up, turn the nursery into a sitting room or library.
